Thursday”s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the (ICAN) page: We have a problem with alcohol-based hand sanitizers eating through floor finish and leaving a white stain where it drips from the dispenser or is dropped on the floor. Is there any way to remove this damage? The answers Answer No. 1: Normally the “bite” from these types of products is not irreversible. You would clean thoroughly, spray with buffing compound or restorer, burnish with high-speed pad/machine, dust mop, and apply a very light coat of finish. If you only have one or two small spots, you can clean with green nylon pad and touch up with floor finish applied with a paper towel. If the solution has penetrated several coats of finish, you will need to reapply finish with the towel until the shine is restored….Gary Clipperton, National Pro Clean Corp.
